ScrapBusting Tip

After cutting fabric for your quilt, cut the remaining fabrics into strips the size you use for bindings.  These leftover strips can then be used on your next scrap quilt project.

"When life hands you scraps,
make quilts."

Quilts seem to take up Betty's time as much as Jon's hobbies.   I started quilting back in the late 70's, so have completed quite a few quilts (although some are in various stages of completion).   I've been told that they did not turn out too bad.

Now that I've got a long-arm sewing machine, I'm hoping to finish up some these that I'm never going to have time to hand quilt.   Well, that's the story... I'm sticking to it!  Be sure to check out my BLOG for more current happenings.

I retired from my 'day job' in January 2007, and have taken the longarm business to full time.  Business has been so good, that I expanded to include t-shirt quilts and custom quilts.  See my new web site that deals with the T-Shirts.

This is "Baskets and Stars".  Each basket block has a star incorporated into in some manner.  This is made with flannels.  Doing Appliqué with flannels is a lot of fun, but I was sure glad to get back to my regular cottons for fine needle turn appliqué.  This pattern by "Joined at the Hip".  Hand pieced by Betty Baker in 2001. Machine Quilted by Betty January 2009.
4 Patch and Furrows. This quilt was started on a quilting cruise that we went on in January 2007.  What fun that was!  Anyway, this was inspired off of a quilt from quiltville.com.  Fussy cut the second border.  Quilted by Betty August 2008.

Click on the close-up of the quilting.  The quilt pattern is called "SPLASH" and is quilted with blue thread.  I named the quilt "Waves of Blue"

Bricks and Stepping-Stones! - Great scrap quilt made with 2" and 3.5" strips.   Designed by Bonnie Hunter, machine pieced by Betty Baker, in line to be machine quilted on the longarm.  May 2005.  Machine quilted by Betty March 2007.  Gifted to Jon's sister Christmas 2007.
This was made from a roll of fat quarters that my daughter gave to me for Christmas a couple of years ago.  The pattern is "Yellow Brick Road" and some of the extra blocks are used on the back.  Pieced in 2007, Quilted in 2008.
